Day 3 Checkpoint: Oceano, CA
Friday, January 29, 2009. Day three of my TEDride: Lucia to Oceano
I got off to an earlier start this morning, after breakfast at the Lucia Lodge. Mid-morning I had a grueling climb between Gorda and Ragged Point. From there it was pretty smooth cycling along the central coast plain. I made the halfway point of my day (mile 50) and my trip (mile 250) at Harmony (population 18), just south of Cambria. I pedaled on through Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. I reached Pismo Beach around 5:00 with just 96 miles on my odometer, so I rode 3 more miles to Oceano — 99.2 miles for the day, and 306 miles so far. I’m staying in the lovely Oceano Inn — which could be any Super 8 Motel — right across the street from Old Jaun’s Cantina. I’ve been craving a margarita and Mexican food all day, so once again, the stars are aligned! With so much flat terrain today, my average speed was 15.6 mph. It was 8 hours 30 minutes door to door, with 6:19 in the saddle. Tomorrow, I have a 100-mile stretch to Santa Barbara. I have uploaded a few new video postcards, but it’s taking too long to upload, so I’ll post more from Santa Barbara on Saturday night. Checkout my video postcards on my YouTube page (www.youtube.com/mmdwight). Thanks for following my ride. Ciao!
